Starring Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Thewlis… This Thriller/Mystery got its own charm; this movie was in my list from a long time, and now finally I’ve watched it. it’s time to share my thoughts on it.

As a whole, my first reason to watch this movie was of course Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson, wasn’t much interested in the story.

Inspired by real life events happened back in 1980's, the story is about a teenage girl, Angela (Emma Watson) who thinks that she’s a target of a satanic cult, she’s been sexually molested by her father, so overall this is the thing with her, where as on the other side, a detective (Ethan Hawke) and a psychoanalyst (David Thewlis) team up, working together on this case, going through every possibility to unmask this satanic cult.

The storyline overall looks solid, at least for a mystery movie.

The movie isn’t perfect. To some people it seems boring, and a waste of time, but to me of course it wasn’t, also I’m interested in knowing about the cults, so that’s why I watched it, I guess?

The theme, the scene settings are perfect. I just love these types of atmospheres, greenery, gothic, mist, and not so populated areas like New York.

But, but, but I expected more. I expected more from the movie, from the beginning it got my attention, everything so confused, the detective taking the case personally, the atmosphere, the acting, the bonds. But I felt this, that the writers could’ve done more. Maybe it’s just that I’ve watched a lot of movies that I can simply conclude the ending just by watching half of it?

Some scenes were pretty disturbing, again it’s a horror movie, so…

Coming back to my point, that I expected more from it, from it, I mean, from the ending. The ending was not good. No, it wasn’t, for me as I expected more. It was pretty simple. I just knew it and it happened exactly.

And of course, I don’t want to spoil the movie here; some people think that “Yeah the plot was twisted, it’s a really good detective movie” But I disagree.

I’ve read other reviews on this; a lot of people like me simply within 45 minutes knew what’s gonna happen so on that part it’s low for me.

Other than this, the movie is great and worth watching. Why worth watching, well, you’re gonna learn a bit of psychology here, see decent acting, brilliant scenes, overall good vibes, and it’s the type of movie that you could watch with friends, and then deeply discuss it, all of its aspects, it’s a mystery.

I want you to consider the good parts, the good things, if I’ll be just pointing out the wrong thing again and again, it will break your interest, it’s a good movie, I again say it, worth watching! Especially with a group of people, intellects.

Conclusion

What I can conclude here is this; the film is mainly about fears! That how you could be controlled by yourself or by others in a circle that you don’t know about, it’s like you’re hearing someone’s opinion but you take that as granted, you accept that as a fact, and it turns into reality for you, but it isn’t the reality. This might be difficult, understanding what I’m saying.

Overall the experience was good; it made me question, made me go through the story till the end.

I guess that’s all. I’m not a movie critic, just an enthusiast.
